Yes! Molly Thompson is back to tackle more gruesome ghouls in Howlfair. And what a blast! 'Molly Thompson and the Crypt of the Blue Moon' is a wildly entertaining sequel, full of mischief, scares and humour quite like no other. Everything you would want for a Halloween feast of a read. Bravo Nick Tomlinson!
Molly Thompson is up to her old tricks, investigating the horrific and ghostly legends of her peculiar town, Howlfair. This time two weird journalists have arrived to write a, hopefully, positive article about the town and its history. But not all is as it seems. The journalists want Molly to help them dig deep into the mysterious legend of the Silentman; to find a special crypt. If Molly can help them properly then the town's reputation and her Mum's guesthouse can be saved for good! Of course, it's not as easy as that...
I enjoyed this ravishing sequel immensely. In fact, I devoured it like a ravenous vampire in a matter of days. Nick Tomlinson writes like a ghoul possessed (if that makes sense). His writing is full of energy, brilliant turns of phrase and is simply a joy to read. His dialogue is spot-on, particularly with Molly and the kids. I think Tomlinson is up against Dashe Roberts and Jennifer Killick for sparky, wonderful Dialogue of the Year. Tomlinson is also a master of characterisation. It's a delight to be back in Howlfair with such a marvellous ensemble of madcap, but also realistic, personalities. Molly Thompson herself is one of my favourite child protagonists: funny, flawed, weird, warm. Her Mum is great too, and I really hope in future books we get more glimpses of her Dad too! I can't wait to see what happens with the reformed Guild of Asphodel - and the junior version.
Quite simply 'Molly Thompson and the Crypt of the Blue Moon' is an enormous amount of fun. The mythology of Howlfair is growing with each installment - the humour and scares ramping up too! There is so much to love about this series. This sequel will certainly leave a big grin on your face this Halloween. Check. It. Out!
