"A story, a story, let it come, let it go!" - West African saying.

As part of my work with the National Literacy Trust, I have had the pleasure to plan and attend events with the storyteller and author Wendy Shearer. She is a brilliant performer and a lovely person too. Her collection of African and Caribbean Folktales, Myths and Legends are really vital and I feel that every Key Stage 2 class should have a copy.

While many children may be familiar with the Greek and Roman myths, what about these spectacular and eccentric tales from Africa and the Caribbean? In particular I loved 'Monkey Liver Soup' and 'The Prince Who Wanted the Moon'. But there is a real diversity of tales on offer and Wendy Shearer writes with pace and wit and a vividness that all the best storytellers use.

A fabulous collection to dazzle, alarm and provoke laughter and wonder.
